if i were you would go to iran and open a chain food store resembling Panera, or Jimmy Jones and earn more

You should note that a business card scanner that recognizes Persian characters should also work for Arabic and Urdo. Therefore the market size is not restricted to Iran. Basically what you need to write is the OCR engine that recognizes Persian, Arabic and Urdo charatcers and then you have to embed that in a hardware that is tied in a linear image scanner and can do the decoding. It is not a difficult project, however if you have what it takes to pull this off, why not invest your talents and abilities in a market that is more stable, like the north American market instead of running after markets whose consumer behavior, import and operational regulation are not predictable.

Second Annonymous says: If you wish to go back to Iran, you do your self a service if you concentrate on things that are proven to make money in Iran rather than going the way of being innovative in technology. Technology innovation requires lots of peripheral servcies that Iran's infrastructure does not provide today. For example if along the way of designing your product, you need to try out multiple linear image scanners to see which ones are better, do you know the number of hoops you have to jump through in order to recive them in Iran. The same holds true for designing PCB boards, having ABS boxes designed for your products and having labels printed for the product These seemingly trivial things can become a big expense, cause lots of delays and frustration in your project. Unless you want to stablish your R&D center outside Iran, pay international salaries, incurr international expenses and then try to market in Iran, which means that you should have a product that mustly have co-marketability in the outside world as well. Sorry I dont mean to discourage you, but you need to know that lots of little seemingly unimportant details go into running a technology company.

The Sixth Annonymous says: Has nothing to do with the government. Has everything to do with the infrastructure and the business environment. By that I mean how companies handle business amongst themselves, the fact that most these companies are owned by the government in Iran is besides the point.

I am not sure what exactly you mean by "infrastructure". In my opinion what is needed for this project is a good team (incl. good Mgmt) and money and then you don't need much to interact with outside your group till you make the product. You are just too pessimistic I think:-)
