seems to me that even a webcam quality camera might be able to get enough resolution to detect the location of the laser pointer on the main slide.
There are three things one needs to keep in mind when thinking about an innovation:
- Technology,
- Application,
- Commercialization,
Not every technology can have an immediate application, and not every application has a clear path that allows commercialization with the given resources that one has at her/his disposal. Having experience in a certain field certainly helps in finding out "better" innovations which generally means having a shorter more "affordable" path to applicablity and commercialization.
For a person who is fresh out university and is looking to choose a path towards enterpreneurship, the lack of exeprience in a particular field presents a major challenge. Simply because one is not familiar with details on how things work in a specific market and field of operation. Therefore there seems to be no place to start to be innovative. All thoughts and ideas end up in the loop of [Does it work? <=> If it works how soon would it sell?]
Experience shows that most young enterpreneurs have chosen the following two paths:
1- Start working on an idea they are good at. Something they know they can pull off, and not worry about commericlization. Later on some how some way would be find to commercialize it. Countless examples of such people exist where something started from a university project and ended up a selling product, like FaceBook.
2- Go to work for a hi-tech company fresh out of school for a couple of years and then do your thing based on what you learn in that company and the things you realize that they can do but they don't, like YouTube.
If you have the idea, and you have the resources to get it to work you have half of the glass full. Remember you are young, and the younger you are the less worried you can be about the other empty half of the glass.
Mohammad, Then probably you need a computer in addition to the webcam. That would increase the cost.
Anonymous, I absolutely agree with what you say. I don't intend to start any business based on these business ideas. I only look at these ideas from market perspective. Sure, there are many other issues to consider as well.

You can just use a wireless mouse to interact with the "PC" instead of a laser pointer and move the pointer on both (or more) screens.
